STP Rocked
An exciting new venue for Raleigh, great show. It's fantastic to have an amphitheater in the heart of downtown. When I walked in, Tab The Band were playing. I was immediately impressed with the mix - I could hear all the instruments equally well, and the vocal harmonies were spot on. Olivia Rodrigo took the stage with "Crackerman" and rolled into "Vasoline" and "Wicked Garden." They played a lot of crowd-pleasing favorites and were "tight" in the best way. My only request would have been for less "Jazz Odyssey" (see Spinal Tap) between songs. At least three times during the show, they went off on aimless musical interludes that brought the energy level down. They hooked me on satellite radio with the song "Whatever Happened To My Rock 'n Roll," took an acoustic turn on their next album, and were mostly about primal noise on this night. Maybe they were aiming for psychedelia, but I thought they were mostly sloppy. I was more confused than anything by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's set. It was a solid show overall, and I would go see them again.
